So, it seems that What If...? won't be the only MCU Disney+ show. Yesterday they announced Spider-man: Freshman Year, which will chronicle the first six months of Spider-man's adventures before Tony Stark recruited him. There's also I Am Groot, which it is still unclear whether this will be fully animated or just only feature CGI things. Marvel Zombies is also an animated quasi-MCU series that appears to be a spin-off from What If...? so it is unclear if that will be a multiversal MCU show or just stand alone.
In any case, Freshman Year I think presents the first real problem for MCU A Chronology since it is fully animated but also fully MCU. It presumably takes place overlapping Age of Ultron and Ant-man and will likely overlap both. It's not clear if Tom Holland is reprising his voice for the role, especially since this a fully Disney production rather than a Sony cooperative work. In any case, it's quickly going to be necessary for dirty30m to figure out what the plan is regarding animated MCU shows.
What are other peoples' thoughts?
Do you care or would you prefer the MCU A Chronology be only live-action?
What if something in an animated show ends up impacting the live-action shows—would that change your mind?
For fun, I just put each What If episode next to its corresponding movie in my own collection.
same since it's a super-cut I think all canon stuff should be included.
I'd rather have it be included
Personally I'd rather it wasn't included, or perhaps a separate version like the mini Fury one or the Infinity Saga. I think it will feel quite jarring to switch between the 2 different styles and I would find it distracting
It'll be included!
Personally, I think if it's canon it should be included, otherwise we are not getting the full character arch's within the supercut. It doesn't really bother me too much if some if it is animated and some live-action, because i suspect that Kevin Feige will be referencing stuff from one show in another. This may have actually already happened. In Civil War when Tony recruits Peter, Peter tells Tony that he has had his powers for 6 months already (this is exactly the content that will be covered in the new SM:Freshman Year animated show), meaning we could have a greater appreciation for Peter's motivations as a character when it comes to CA:CW, and from then onward; this could then directly link to SM:NWH or other Spiderman entries int he future of the MCU.
